Can My Sins Cost Me My Salvation?

December 5, 2021

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

When you give your life to Jesus, today’s verse says you become a new creation. Now, this is not talking about your body. If you are bald when you give your life to Christ, you do not instantly gain a head full of hair. If you enjoy a triple-tall latte, you still like them after giving your life to Christ. The people you love remain the same.

Accepting Christ transforms our spirits completely, not necessarily our physical bodies or our minds. Once you give your life to Christ, your new spirit—alive with the power and presence of Jesus—becomes untouchable by you. I want you to think about that.

I meet people convinced that they have lost their salvation. They tell me about falling back into bad habits that caused them to spiral out of control, or about personal mistakes that have cost them their reputations or families. When we lose our marriages, health, or peace of mind, we can mistakenly tie our salvation to the physical or emotional things we have lost.

Now, a heart and mind that is unrenewed in God’s Word can lose its way. You may mess up and feel hypocritical. You may think God has given up on you and that you have lost your salvation as a result. That is untrue. Your mistakes don’t change what the Spirit of God has done in your spirit. When you accept Jesus Christ, He comes into your spirit, and nobody can pluck you from His hand (John 10:28-29).

As a born-again believer, rest in knowing that no matter how many times you mess up, your salvation is still secure.
