CAN YOU SEE GOD’S FINGERPRINTS?

September 27, 2023

He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NLT)

I’m blown away by how God achieves His purposes through us. In the moment, we often don’t recognize God at work in our jobs, circumstances and relationships.

Take my life, for example. Raised in a wonderful pastor’s home, I witnessed God perform miracles at an early age. Later on, I began working at a steel mill where I found it a shocking adjustment to work alongside tough, secular co-workers. From there, I moved into emergency medicine, where my years as a paramedic taught me to lead others while coping with screaming, blood, trauma and death.

The gritty steel mill and the brokenness I saw as a paramedic blew my eyes open to a harsh reality—that the beautiful, safe environment my parents raised me in was not everybody’s world. As I transitioned into ministry work, I began to see what God wanted me to learn over the years.

First, God knew I needed to gain an understanding of the world. Then He needed me to learn how to operate there in a spirit contemporary way. As a pastor, I continue working to empower believers with that message and help them become more effective at sharing Jesus.

You see, God weaves His purposes through the everyday grind of our lives. God didn’t guide my career with great fireballs or bolts of lightning. Yet looking back, I can see God’s supernatural involvement the whole time as I trusted Him more than anyone or anything.

Reflect on the areas your life. You too will discover God’s fingerprints all over your story!
