WHAT GRABS GOD’S ATTENTION?

September 15, 2023

“Let’s go across to the outpost of those pagans,” Jonathan said to his armor bearer. “Perhaps the Lord will help us, for nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!” 1 Samuel 14:6 (NLT)

God is drawn toward movement.

First Samuel 14:1–23 shares a great example of this. While King Saul and the Israelite army camped out near the Philistines’ military outpost, Saul’s son, Jonathan, decided to take action. He told his armour-bearer, “Let’s approach the enemy base. If they tell us to come up and fight, that means God will help us defeat them!”

The Philistines saw the two Israelites approaching from a disadvantaged position and naturally invited them to fight. As Jonathan and his armour-bearer attacked, God showed up powerfully. You see, God can lead those who get up and go for something despite risks or adversity.

Now, I’m not saying to live recklessly or without wisdom. I apply as much wisdom as possible to everything I attempt in my life—but I don’t let risk scare me away from going forward.

What about you? Have you sat around for too long, scared to make a move? If so, decide to get up and live proactively.

For example, instead of wishing you were closer to your kids, do things to make that happen. Carve out time to kick a ball around or go bike-riding. Don’t just dream of being an entrepreneur. Talk to successful business owners and begin to learn management skills.

It’s okay to make mistakes as you go. Just get up and get going—and like Jonathan, you’ll be amazed at how God will lead you!
