“Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah…we’re a free people…. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need.” Ephesians 1:7-10 (MSG)
I once read a story about a man who saved every penny for years to buy a ticket on board a ship to America. He was so poor that he only managed to save enough for the ticket; he didn’t have enough for meals. With only a wheel of cheese and some crackers, he rationed out small daily portions. When he ran out of food, he became so hungry that he decided to chance the punishment of eating in the dining room.
He made his way into the dining room and sat down. He could not believe the incredible amount of wonderful food he was brought. He inhaled course after course, but was horrified when he noticed the captain walking toward him.
The captain greeted him cheerfully and asked him why he hadn’t seen him before. The man apologized and pleaded for mercy, explaining that he was starving. The captain looked confused. “But sir,” he said, “Your ticket is all-inclusive. All you have to do is come and eat.”
This story reminds me of what it means to accept Jesus into your life. A ticket to Heaven isn’t the only thing you inherit. As great as that is in itself, you gain so much more: access to an abundant life filled with love, joy, peace and countless blessings. The entire, incredible package is bought and paid for. Are you taking full advantage?
