But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26 (NKJV)
In life, you’ll find that you will come across strategic times—critical or opportune times for action. The Ancient Greeks had a word for times like these: kairos.
I’ve noticed these kairos times in my life are times when God wants me to expand my thinking and get ready to grow or move in a new direction—times when I feel like I’ve reached the limit of my capabilities. It’s during times like these that I find God begins to mess with my thinking. As I study His Word, He challenges me to dream bigger and remember that all things are possible with Him.
Are you experiencing a kairos time right now? Are you at a crossroad in your career, in a relationship, or in another area of your life? Are you being challenged to do more, to reach higher, or to step out of your comfort zone? If so, here are two little thought exercises that can really help.
First, imagine that everyone is going to be happy about your decision, no matter what. What would you choose to do?
Many of us limit our dreams because we’re worried that people are going to be upset. But what if everyone was happy with your decision and the finances were taken care of? This exercise can help you to determine what’s on your heart to do.
Second, pretend you’re sitting on the front porch in your rocking chair near the end of your time here on earth, and you’re looking back on your life. What are you proud of in your accomplishments?
Practice these two exercises today, and then set a plan in place to take action!
