However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. John 16:13 (NKJV)
Do you ever wonder how it must have felt to be one of Jesus’ disciples? He would have been the perfect friend. Jesus loved them unconditionally; He knew everything about them and yet overlooked every one of their inadequacies. If they were hungry, He fed them. If they were under attack, He protected them. If a storm blew, He calmed it. He taught and showed them the heart of the Father. When they hurt Him or abandoned Him, He forgave them. He accepted them as they were and demonstrated His love to them day after day.
Now imagine what it would be like to have Jesus live with you for three years, hanging out with your family, sitting with you at the breakfast table and sharing truths about the Father, playing with the kids, helping you solve business problems and counselling your marriage. How would you feel if He told you He was leaving?
Jesus had to leave to go to heaven to represent the human race before God. But He didn’t abandon us. In fact, He sent Holy Spirit who is the same as Him, and He can be that perfect friend and helper to every one of us simultaneously!
As a believer, Holy Spirit is in you, so you are never alone. This perfect friend that you’ve always wanted actually dwells inside you, available always to give you love, comfort, wisdom, strength, encouragement and direction if you just turn your attention His way and claim the provision He gives.
