See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! 1 John 3:1 (NLT)
I grew up with an incredible dad. Now that he’s gone, I often realize how much I miss his presence in my life.
I remember talking with an elderly man one day about life’s issues. I said, “Sometimes, I wish my dad was here so I could talk to him and ask him what to do. Do you ever feel that way?” And he replied, “All the time!”
You see, it doesn’t matter how old we grow, we want a dad to go to for guidance, help or just a pair of loving, protective arms to wrap around us and hold us tight when life is hard. You could be ninety years old with a sixty-year-old child, and your kid will still look up to you and want encouragement or advice from you.
The truth is, as believers, we have a Heavenly Father who is all of these things for us.
God intentionally designed our parent-child relationship with Him. He desires to be the Father we reach for, talk with and love. God enjoys empowering us to get up and carry on. He’s pleased to shoulder our burdens, share our heartaches and help us rise and overcome challenges.
God gave you His Word so you can know Him and all the things that are important to Him. In it, He shares the life lessons, love, encouragement and wisdom He wants to speak into your life.
Today, if you struggle with the idea of a loving, attentive or present dad, know that God is everything you could hope for in a father. And He is beyond proud to call you His child.
