A Mouse or a Lion?

March 9, 2022

Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Luke 10:18 (NLT)

I pray from a position of power and authority in Christ.

Often, after conducting healing services or ministering to people at conferences, other preachers will approach me. They’ll say, “I think it’s wrong that you are commanding God to do something.”

I correct them by saying I’m not commanding God. But I am an ambassador for God addressing the elements of this world. So, when I speak to sick bodies, I command sickness to go because illness has no right to stay. Whenever I command poverty to leave and blessing and favour to flow, it’s because poverty has no authority to remain.

Imagine hiring a babysitter who casually watches while someone busts into your house and bolts away with one of your kids. Afterwards, the babysitter explains, “Well, I didn’t want to exert too much authority over the kidnapper. I just wanted to stay humble.” Most parents would freak out. “Humble?! I gave you the authority and responsibility to protect my kids!”

When it comes to humility, many believers mistakenly view it as shy, mousy modesty. However, we are not mice praying before God to overcome the lion. We belong to the King of Kings and speak from that position. So, I don’t pray delicate, timid prayers as though that’s humility.

You see, through Jesus’ finished work on the cross, we hold the authority to speak to—and move—mountains. We have a God-given dominion on the earth (Genesis 1:28). In fact, when you declare God’s Word aloud, angels spring into action to carry it out (Psalm 103:20).

It is up to believers to rise and use the authority Jesus won for us!
