Be careful what you think [Above all that you guard, protect your heart], because your thoughts run your life [life flows from it]. Proverbs 4:23 (EXB)
Yesterday I shared about the early days of our church. As it began to experience explosive growth, there were times I didn't feel good about where I was going. On the outside, I was handling my increased responsibilities as a leader. But on the inside, I was in turmoil.
You see, religion had taught me that I should stay humble. Every compliment or opportunity for growth made me uneasy. But eventually I realized those feelings weren't from having pride or sin in my life. My real issue was the difference between my behaviour as a leader and the beliefs of my heart. I couldn't see myself pastoring a church of thousands. Externally, that's exactly what I was doing—because as the church grew, I had no choice—but inside, my heart struggled with limiting beliefs.
You may be handling your current season well, but that doesn't mean you're prepared for the next one. A wonderful single person can be an awful spouse. A good parent can struggle as an empty nester. Every new season in life requires your perception of yourself to change. If you do not renew your beliefs about your identity, you will constantly be at war with yourself every time you are handed a new opportunity.
I encourage you to get into God's Word. Think about where He is leading you next, and ask Him to help you renew your mind and heart. Get a new picture of who He created you to be, because that belief will determine your future.
As you transition into the next season, you will be equipped to handle greater growth, responsibility and opportunities with ease!
