“There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.” John 14:2-3 (NLT)
Today, my dad is enjoying Heaven. But while on Earth, he often reminded people, “There is a Heaven, and it’s worth living for!” because he recognized how we view eternity and Heaven affects how we live our lives and vice versa.
I remember watching him officiate the funerals for his brother, sister and parents. At the viewings, he wept over their bodies. Yet when it came time to speak before the crowd about Heaven, he had this absolute joy. His favourite message to share was, “Heaven is a prepared place for prepared people.”
He’d often say how excited he was that in Heaven, church denominations would be a thing of the past. Everyone would simply be a member of God’s family. He’d say, “If you know Jesus as your Saviour, the name of the church you went to won’t matter. These are only names we use on Earth to bring people to Christ.”
What mattered, he said, was people getting to know God and His Word. He’d say, “We don’t want to get to Heaven and say, ‘I didn’t know about this!’ No, we want to get to know God’s Word here so that things will be familiar to us there!”
Although our lives here are temporary, our futures in eternity are not. So take the time to grow with God and discover His promises. The better you know Him, the more ready you’ll be for the incredible, eternal home Jesus is preparing for you!
