Admit It and Let It Go

June 24, 2021

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NLT)

My goal as a father isn’t to raise kids who fear me or who don’t want me around because of how awful I make them feel. No loving parent wants their kids to feel this way, but that’s exactly how many of us feel toward our Father God.

It certainly doesn’t help that many Christians focus on making people feel guilty for their mistakes. No wonder people develop a picture of God that is so different from the loving Father He really is. They assume that everyone goes to church to get their weekly beating for all that they have done wrong instead of going to learn about who they really are in Christ and how He died so they could live a great life. They don’t see God as their source of comfort and help in bad times; they assume that He kicks them when they are down!

First Corinthians 2:9 paints quite the opposite picture. We can’t even imagine all of the wonderful things God has for us!

I am not saying that life is all roses when you serve Jesus. We will still go through difficult times…but there is no condemnation in Him (Romans 8:1). You have a heavenly Father who is “faithful and just to forgive” your mess-ups when you admit them (1 John 1:9, NKJV). He doesn’t expect you to hang onto your guilt for a period of time and attempt to pay Him back for what you’ve done. He accepts your apology with open arms.

Jesus has already paid every price that you could possibly incur, so just move on and keep improving. He’ll help you all the way.
