ARE YOU RELYING ON YOUR OWN STRENGTH?

June 15, 2022

Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. 2 Corinthians 1:9 (ESV)

God blessed me with an incredible dad. Although he passed away years ago, I remember many of the life lessons he taught me. Over the next few days, I’d like to share some wisdom from him.

One of the things he taught me was not to struggle in my own strength but to rely on Jesus instead.

As I grew up, I watched my dad live a life that genuinely followed this Biblical truth. Because he consistently planted God’s Word into his heart, he had an amazing ability to turn from fear or temptation and depend on Jesus to be his strength.

As a pastor, he loved to preach about how special 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 was to him. Back during his teenage years, God had strongly impressed this passage on his heart. Later as an adult, my dad would say, “When God says, ‘Don’t you know?’, He’s trying to get your attention. ‘Don’t you know that you are the temple of God, the Spirit of God dwells in you, and you are not your own?’” Whenever he went through struggles and trials, Holy Spirit would remind him, “You’re not your own.”

When life throws problems at you, do you struggle to deal with them on your own? Listen, as a believer, you belong to God. He bought you at a high price, according to 1 Corinthians 6:20, so you don’t need to do it all on your own. You don’t have to go through fearful situations or temptations in your own strength.

You can yield everything to Jesus and rely on Him to take you through.
