Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.Psalm 92:13 (NKJV)
Why do palm trees grow beautifully in Hawaii but wither in Canada? It’s because they thrive in a particular atmosphere, and believers are the same way.
To mature and grow strong spiritually, we need to put down roots in the nourishing environment of a life-giving church.
Psalm 1:3 (AMP) says people who tap into a robust and visionary church are like trees “firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water.” Their hearts and minds get fed, their marriages and families thrive and friendships blossom because they’re established in healthy soil. That’s why today’s verse says those who are planted in God’s house flourish.
Now, the enemy doesn’t want you settled somewhere that teaches you God’s Word and helps you grow into a mature believer. That’s his worst nightmare! So he’ll form weapons to try to get you out of church. He might use other people or wrong thoughts and attitudes to see if he can get you turned off. He’ll even make other cities or countries look more appealing—anything to uproot you.
I understand some people are led away to other places, but make sure it’s God calling you there. If you’re in the valley of decision, ask yourself, “What will it cost me if I don’t find a strong, vibrant church for my family?”
Whatever your location or circumstances, plug into a church that fuels growth and encourages you to rise up in Jesus and fulfill the call of God on your life. Seek out one that’s spiritually alive and get connected—even if it’s online—to people who will provoke you to good works and will love, laugh and support you. That’s where you’ll flourish!
