BRING ON THE NEW

July 25, 2022

Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. Ephesians 4:22–24 (NLT)

The moment you made the decision to follow Christ, a complete transformation took place in your spirit and you became a new creation. You started out your life having the nature of sin because of Adam and Eve’s disobedience, but now you have the nature of God because of Jesus. You experienced a complete nature change.

The next step is to put off your old ways of thinking, acting and believing so you can put on new ways that line up with the new creation you are (Ephesians 4:22– 24).

How do you put off the old and put on the new? Well, Ephesians 4:25–32 sheds a lot of light on the topic. For example, it says to put off falsehood and instead to speak truthfully. It teaches us to work, not steal, and to build people up, not tear them down with our words. It’s all about putting off destructive behaviours and putting on constructive ones.

When you read God’s Word, you find out what you’re capable of through Christ. You also become more aware of misbeliefs and habits that don’t serve you well. This knowledge empowers you to develop better habits and more confidence. This revelation is so important because it empowers you to change old habits and ways of thinking.

The key to improving your life lies with discovering who you’re empowered to be through Christ and then choosing to become that person!
