Called to Create

July 2, 2021

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:28 (NKJV)

Many people think that after the Garden of Eden, God was finished creating. But He’s not. Since we’re made in His image, God’s creative ability is within every single human being today!

Do you think He’s surprised that we looked around at the Earth He created and discovered the means to create computer chips or rockets? Of course not. Mankind was designed to take what God created and continue to create.

Sometimes believers talk as if the only thing we’re called to do is fulfill the Great Commission to spread the Gospel. While that is absolutely crucial, we can’t forget God’s first command. Back in Genesis, He told Adam and Eve to be fruitful and multiply, to fill the earth and have dominion over it. This is called the cultural mandate, and it’s still in effect today.

All through the Word, you can see generations rising up with skills in agriculture, metal-working, music, the arts and all sorts of trades. Whatever field you’re in, God wants you to create, build, develop skills and manage the resources He’s given you. He wants you blessed! What does blessed mean? It means happy, fortunate and to be envied. You’re called to make the world jealous.

Fulfilling God’s cultural mandate is one of the best ways to also fulfill the Great Commission. As you live, create and build with excellence, people will be attracted to the victory in your life. And you’ll have a chance to share where this blessing comes from—faith in Jesus!
