With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation. Psalms 91:16 (NKJV)
The better we get to know and trust God, the less fear controls us.
One time, I remember being on a plane taxiing down the runway at full throttle about to liftoff. Without warning, the pilot suddenly aborted take-off and slammed on the brakes. Horrific screams filled the plane. The guy beside me turtled into a ball, terrified. But a mighty peace instantly arose within me that said, “Not today.” When the aircraft stopped, the guy beside me exclaimed, “We almost died!” Now, I’m no better than anybody else, but I replied, “This plane can’t crash—I’m on it!”
That might sound overconfident, but as a believer, I’m convinced that today’s verse is God’s personal promise to me. That’s not to say that as believers, we don’t struggle like everyone else at times. But as we develop trust in God’s Word and His promises, it changes how we go through a crisis.
We serve a God who knows what we need before we even ask and supplies for all of those necessities (Matthew 6:7-8, Philippians 4:19). Think about that. Let’s say you’re going to require two separate miracles because you accidentally touched some toxic chemicals and are also dealing with something congenital from birth. God knows and He already gave you the answers to those issues two thousand years ago. When you let that truth root into your heart, you start trusting God. Fear begins to fall away.
Throughout His Word, God shows Himself to be personal, unfailing and trustworthy. His promises are the same. The more you grow to trust what God says in His Word, the more you develop faith and confidence in His promises over your life. That brings you true freedom!
