What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of [earthborn] man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God, and You have crowned him with glory and honor.Psalm 8:4–5 (AMP)
Yesterday we saw how important it is to develop a sense of self-worth—because you have no ability to love people more than you love yourself.
These days, we think that to love yourself is a mark of arrogance. But if you do not value yourself as God’s creation, the love you offer others will be tainted. For example, a parent who needs their kids to affirm their worth will end up driving their children away. Why? Because those kids are not meant to fill that need. Only God can.
Whenever you try to get your sense of worth from another person, you are holding them hostage—and that relationship is headed for trouble. But when you realize how much God loves you, it frees your relationships to grow and thrive.
The Word says God has crowned you with glory and honour—or in more modern terms, dignity and worth. No one can diminish or take this from you. Your spouse can’t touch your worth. Your children’s opinion of you can’t change it. The teacher or boss who said you were a failure can’t take it away. This crown of dignity and worth is already on your head!
If you struggle with feelings of insecurity, meditate on verses about how God sees you. Begin to walk with your head held high, knowing you are crowned with dignity. As you become more and more secure in God, you will be able to offer a complete, healthy love to others—no strings attached.
