Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left. Isaiah 30:21 (NLT)
So many Christians wish someone would prophesy over them or receive a special vision about their life. They're hungry for direction from God, but don't realize they can receive it for themselves.
In 1994, Sally and I knew God was leading us to pastor Springs Church. It wasn't an easy decision, but after praying and seeking His wisdom, we agreed to take the step. During that time, several pastors called to tell me I had missed God. One said that this decision wasn't God's best for my life. Another said God was calling me to Mexico, and a third said I was meant to pastor in Saskatchewan. Yet Sally and I knew where God was leading us.
When people tell you they have a word from God for you, be careful. Does He sometimes use others to speak to you? Yes, but the primary way God leads is through His Word and Holy Spirit within you.
A few years later as Springs grew to reach thousands of people, I asked God, “Why didn't You give us a vision years ago to confirm this was the right decision?” He told me, “I need you to get direction from Me and not allow anyone else to mess with what I've called you to do.”
No human being can take Holy Spirit's role in your life. You need to hear God yourself and pursue what He places on your heart, no matter how persuasive others might be. It's a wonderful, freeing thing when you can throw your shoulders back and say, “God is guiding me personally with His Spirit in me!”
