By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. 2 Peter 1:3 (NLT)
How much has God given us? Everything! Through Christ, God gave us all that we need to prosper, overcome temptation, grow loving relationships, know peace and walk in health.
That’s why it is counterproductive to plead with God for something He’s already provided us. In fact, begging Him is essentially believing that He hasn’t given it to us. Our prayers are then operating in unbelief. Imagine inheriting a house and holding the ownership documents and keys, but instead of making it your home, you keep asking the bank if you can have the house. It’s already yours!
So, if God has given us all that we need, why do we keep asking Him for it? Perhaps you’re thinking, “doesn’t James 4:2 say that we do not have because we do not ask?” Yes, but by digging into the Word, we discover the word “ask” is the same as “declare.” That changes everything.
Picture all that God has given you sitting readily available in your spiritual bank account, like an inheritance. As a believer, how do you access your God-given inheritance? Through His “great and precious promises” (2 Peter 1:4, NLT). What do we do with those promises? We declare them as ours in Christ. We speak them with authority over our lives, which convinces our heart of the truth.
Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Let’s ensure we are actively declaring God’s promises in faith as a done deal over our health, finances, families, relationships and anything we put our hands to. Understanding God’s promises and what you have in Christ completely changes how you pray!
