Don’t Have to Beg, Bug or Plead

July 20, 2021

And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for. 1 John 5:14–15 (NLT)

For some reason, many Christians think that prayer is all about begging and bugging God to get Him to act on their behalf.

I remember being in prayer meetings like this. A group would get together to pray and, as they prayed, they would work up more and more emotion. They seemed to assume that their tears would move God to do something. It’s as though they believed that all they could do was beg Him to get involved and hope for the best.

When I used to attend prayer meetings like that, I just didn’t get it. I couldn’t understand why we would need to beg God to save the community when God wanted them saved even more than we did! It didn’t make sense that we would have to plead with God for healing when He wanted to heal the person’s body even more than we did!

I don’t beg, bug or plead with God hour after hour, yet I believe strongly in the power of prayer. It’s just that my type of praying is different. Prayer can be a constant two-way communication with God—an ongoing conversation with Him.

As you go about your day today, stay in conversation with God. Ask His opinion. Get Him involved in your day and stay tuned in to sense if He’s nudging you in a certain direction. He always hears you and you can be confident that He will do what His Word says He will do.
