Everything You Need

July 29, 2021

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:33 (NLT)

In Matthew 6:33, Jesus tells us to seek His Kingdom first. He wants us to care about what He cares about—bringing more people into relationship with Him. Notice that in this verse He says that our needs are taken care of as we focus on His Kingdom. He doesn’t say, “Seek my Kingdom first, and stop having needs.” No, He knows you have needs and He wants to take care of them.

Jesus wasn’t just talking about spiritual needs in this verse either. Verse 31 mentions practical needs such as having enough food, drink and clothes to wear. Philippians 4:19 goes a step further and says that God will meet “all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus” (NLT). God wants to make sure ALL your needs are met—physical needs, spiritual needs and emotional needs for love, touch and intimacy.

So…give of yourself extravagantly! Stop worrying about what you need because God is looking out for you. You have the freedom to care about what God cares about first!

Even if you have unmet needs, you can shine for Jesus. In the midst of pain and heartache, sickness, depression, financial pressure that keeps you up late at night or anything else this world throws at you, you can find ways to tell people about Jesus. It’s the fastest way out of dark times!

If you’re in the hospital, don’t whine about the doctors. Reach out to the person in the bed beside you. Be Jesus’ hands and feet in the way you meet others’ needs, and He’ll use others to meet your needs. You can be confident in that promise.
