For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 (NLT)
Satan is trying to sabotage your faith, but he has no real power to do so. All he can do is try to plant little thoughts in your mind. You see, if he can get you thinking about these destructive little thoughts, you might pick up a limiting misbelief. For example, if he can get you persuaded that you’ll never do anything great in life, your heart will go to work producing more of what you believe.
So how do you defeat these tricks of the devil? When you first read Ephesians 6:12, it sounds as if you need to fight a war against Satan and his demons—in fact that’s what many Christians try to do. Although we know that we have power and authority over the enemy, these next verses don’t talk about binding demons. They’re all about getting the right beliefs.
Ephesians 6:13 (NLT) says, “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. ” Then verses 14 to 17 list the armour you need to put on. Each piece of armour represents a key belief you need to get into your heart.
That’s right—the war you fight against spiritual forces is all about believing the right things! You need to be convinced about truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation and the power of God’s Word. And as you grow in these areas of belief, you become unstoppable!
