There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His. Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. Hebrews 4:9–11 (NKJV)
Today it can be easy to get caught up with trying to make life work. You can get so occupied with working at your marriage, parenting your kids, advancing at work and bettering your health that you get stressed-out, worried and overwhelmed. It can seem like there aren’t enough hours in the day, but this is not the way God designed us to live.
There is a rest that you can have in this lifetime in the midst of all your efforts. Hebrews 4:11 gives us the key: we have to work at entering into that rest. This may seem contradictory, but that’s exactly what we need to do.
You see, if you work at planting great beliefs into your inner life instead of spending time thinking about negative things, you’ll be able to handle more. In the midst of what would make most people stress out, you’ll have joy. When peace would seem hard to find because everything in your life is unsure, you will walk through it all with such a phenomenal sense of peace that people look at you and wonder what you have.
You can have this kind of real rest in your everyday life. It flows from the heart of someone who understands and trusts that they are right with God because they received Jesus—a heart that has been cultivated, planted and nurtured in God’s Word. So… grab some time to do some planting today!
