Flooded With Love

July 9, 2021

…take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:18-19 (MSG)

Early on in our marriage, Sally and I lived in a small, very run-down house. One spring, I heard a gurgling noise coming from the basement. When I investigated, I found the drain in the floor was spouting water 18 inches high. I quickly grabbed a pail, rammed it in the hole and used a heavy track and field shot put to weigh down the pail. But even then, water continued to flood in and fill my basement. I couldn’t believe the force behind it.

According to Ephesians 3:19, God’s love fills your being like a flood. Nothing can stop the power of a flood in motion.

In Ephesians 3:17 (AMPC), the Apostle Paul prayed, “May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love...” He also spelled out the result of having a foundation in unconditional love. Verse 19 says that the result is “a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself!”

When you look to God to meet your need for love, He fills it completely. You stop expecting accomplishments, performance and possessions to fill you. Instead, you know that you’re loved and accepted by God—and this empowers you to have healthy relationships with the people around you.

God wants you to understand how deep His love is. It’s a love you have to experience to understand. As you live “full in the fullness of God,” your fears, insecurities and hurts will begin to wash away. Open your heart to God’s unconditional love today and let it flood into your life!
