GET A NEW VISION

October 3, 2022

“Then, after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions." Joel 2:28 (NLT)

When you're facing a new challenge, it's tempting to rely on logic and reasoning to make your way through. Although those are important, they don't impact your heart the way dreams and visions do.

Jesus understood how to speak the language of the heart. That's why He often communicated through stories. Take the parable of the prodigal son, for instance. Jesus could have taught a sermon on ten principles of forgiveness. But instead, He shared one story that's packed with enough powerful truths for dozens—if not hundreds—of sermons!

His parables transformed the hearts of countless people. Just take a look at Jesus' disciples. These young men started out rough around the edges. They struggled with anger, fear and doubt just like we do. But they were so transformed by the picturesque teachings of Jesus that many of them gave their lives for the Gospel. Something had changed these men's hearts.

Just like Jesus spoke the language of the heart, that's how Holy Spirit teaches us today—through dreams and visions. I'm not necessarily talking about falling into a trance or seeing a prophetic vision. Most of the time, He teaches us through His Word. As you read and study it, Holy Spirit shows you things to come. When you’re planting the Word in your heart, He establishes your beliefs about who you are and guides you forward.

If you're facing a new challenge, make it a priority to engage the Word with your imagination. Develop a new dream on the inside of you and get ready to walk into a new season.
