Get Familiar with God’s Promises

June 22, 2021

Oh Lord, God of Abraham Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep forever such purposes and thoughts in the minds of your people, and direct and establish their hearts towards you. 1 Chronicles 29:18 (AMP)

You are most confident with things that are familiar to you. When faced with the unknown, our typical emotional response is usually based in fear.

For example, most people who walk into a party where they don’t know anyone feel some level of nervousness. If we’re challenged in a new way, especially if we feel unprepared, we tend to struggle. Imagine if you were expected to fulfill a role in an operating room and had no training. You would certainly experience some anxiety.

Actually, people tend to reject what they’re not familiar with. Because of this fear of the unknown, people often stay with old, familiar habits even when a new one could make their lives so much better. This is partly why imagining a positive future filled with God’s promises is so important. As you imagine good things taking place in your life, they become familiar to you.

When you become familiar with something, you begin to expect it to happen. As you become more familiar with God’s promises, you come to expect all the good things God has promised you instead of expecting only what you’ve experienced. If you grew up experiencing a lot of rejection in life, you can focus on the truth that you’re accepted by God. With that confidence, you can start expecting others to accept you for who you are too.

To walk into your future with confidence and faith, set your focus on what God says about you. And let the truth in God’s Word guide your expectations.
