The Kingdom of God can’t be detected by visible signs. You won’t be ableto say ‘Here it is,’ or ‘It’s over there!’ For the Kingdom of God is alreadyamong you. Luke 17:20–21 (NLT)
Throughout history, religiouswars have been fought over what was deemed to be holy. Sacred temples, relicsand holy grounds were defended at all costs. You wouldn’t believe the number ofpeople who have been slaughtered over the years in the name of religion, andthat includes religious Christianity.
It’s sad becauseChristianity is not even about buildings, relics or holy ground. Jesus’ kingdomisn’t political, and it isn’t a geographical territory. Jesus came to deal with our internal world—the hearts of mankind.
When Jesus told us toput His kingdom first (Matthew 6:33), He was talking about an internal work inour lives, not an external one. You can’t see Jesus’ kingdom with your physicaleyes because it’s within each believer. Thisis where His work takes place—in your heart. This is where He speaks to youin a still, small voice, giving you a sense of peace about one direction or animpression to go another.
Your heart is whereyou hold your deepest beliefs about who you are. When your heart becomes full ofGod’s love and His Word, His power and presence flow from your life. Everythingyou need begins to come together when your heart’s beliefs line up with His.
When it comes to your faith in Jesus, theimportant work is taking place inside you. You hold the keys to His kingdom.Keep studying and meditating on His Word so it can change your beliefs. Make ita priority. Always put that internalwork first.
