Gradual Change

August 23, 2021

“All things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23 (NKJV)

When people struggle in life, they sometimes look for someone to blame. They may point the finger at another person, at the devil, or they may even point the finger at God. They assume they’re victims to forces beyond their control.

Although we can’t control everything, we have to realize that the deepest beliefs of our heart have a profound impact on our lives. And we definitely have control over what we believe.

The problem is that many people are looking for a quick fix. They pray and study God’s Word, but when change doesn’t happen immediately, they conclude it isn’t working. As a result, many assume God isn’t listening or they think His presumed lack of response must mean He wants them to struggle.

In reality, most change takes place gradually. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard people tell me that they can’t really pinpoint when their lives turned around. They’ll share that their marriage, family life, health or finances have improved, but when I ask what caused the change, they can’t really tell me. They started attending church and doing devotions, and things gradually improved.

What happened was several little epiphanies over a period of time. Now they hold a different picture of the future.

If you’re frustrated with the way things are going in your life right now, have patience. As you continue meditating on God’s Word, hearing good teaching and building relationships with other believers, your beliefs will change. And remember—Jesus said that all things are possible to those who believe.
