Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)
According to Hebrews 11:1, “faith is the substance of things hoped for.” When you lose hope and begin to doubt that you can have everything God has promised you, faith stops working.
You need to hang on to hope and stay in faith. If you’re feeling discouraged, it’s time to hang on to hope.
I have counselled with many married couples who have begun to lose hope. They will start saying things like, “He’ll never change. It’s pointless to even try.” The problem is that they’ve allowed a bad period of time to cause them to forget about all the good times. They’ve let themselves get down and discouraged. When this happens, they can’t see beyond the valley. There could be high ground only a few steps away, but the valley feels eternal. They can’t look past the problem, and this is a huge issue.
You can’t have faith if you can’t envision a positive end result. If only they’d look back to the times when he did change or when she made an effort, hope could be rekindled and they could work together in faith for a better marriage.
If you are going through something right now that has you discouraged, remember your victories. Think about all the struggles God has taken you through. Hope will help you take a step towards standing in faith for every promise God has for your life.
