Healing the Heart

August 6, 2021

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted.” Luke 4:18 (NKJV)

Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted.

When someone is brokenhearted, we tend to think that it somehow relates to the loss of a relationship. Although a broken relationship can definitely lead to a broken heart, this isn’t the only type of brokenness Jesus came to heal.

If you feel like you’ll never get anywhere financially, your dreams of having a successful future are broken. Sickness and disease can cause you to be brokenhearted if you lose hope that you will be healthy again.

Essentially, you become brokenhearted when you lose hope in any area of your life. Jesus came to heal that brokenness. He wants you to break through that misbelief by beginning to believe in His promises.

The Bible teaches us that what you think in your heart determines how you live (Proverbs 23:7). He’s given you the control. He partners with you, but what you believe controls what you reach for in life. For example, if an opportunity comes along in your career but you believe you’re a loser, you won’t take it because you won’t believe you can handle it.

Choose to believe that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13), that you are healthy and whole through Jesus (1 Peter 2:24), and that God has planned a great future for you (Jeremiah 29:11), and hope will return.

Let Jesus heal your broken heart. Begin to believe in who God says you are and what He says you can have.
