Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. Hebrews 4:14 (NKJV)
We usually hear the word “confession” in a negative context, like a criminal confessing a crime. But few people realize that when “confession” is used in the Bible, it’s often referring to us speaking the Word.
Hebrews 4:14 tells us to “hold fast our confession.” There’s nothing more powerful than consistently confessing the Word of God over your life.
Revelation 12:11 (NKJV) says, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” A testimony is a verbal declaration. Now think about what’s in your regular conversation. What are you declaring about who you are and the circumstances you’re in? What do you say about the future?
It’s important to realize that speaking the Word isn’t about trying to become something you’re not. It’s about being who you already are in Christ. Think about it this way. If a lion is raised by poodles, that lion will grow up acting like a poodle, eating poodle food and having poodle fears. But is he really a poodle? No! He’s a powerful predator! But he needs to realize his identity and retrain his thinking.
It’s the same with us. Jesus is the Lion of Judah, and the Word says you and I as believers are joint heirs with Him. As He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). Stop thinking that your upbringing or circumstances have to rule your life. It’s your confession that determines where you go.
Start the habit of speaking God’s Word over your life every day and hold onto your confession of faith!
