Initiate a Course Change

August 24, 2021

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23 (NLT

Do you have habits or tendencies you wish you could change?

I think we could all answer ‘yes’ to that question. But before you spend too much time trying to change your behaviour, you need to change what you believe in your heart first. Many of the changes you struggle to make in life can be traced back to a misbelief you hold in your heart.

You can modify your behaviour by developing new habits, but this requires ongoing effort. Why constantly struggle to change when you can make permanent, lasting change?

When you deal with misbeliefs, change becomes easy and unforced. You see, your behaviour is determined by your heart beliefs. As you begin to believe you are who God says you are, you come to expect more. As a result, you begin to move toward these new goals in your career, family, body, mind, relationships and your relationship with God.

When you want to make a change, first find out if it’s something God says you can have. Then begin to experience it in your heart by starting to picture that change in your life. Daydream about it, practice it, confess it and imagine it. We call this process “seeing with the eyes of faith,” and it’s a Biblical concept. Second Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (NKJV) and faith is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1, NKJV).

Your heart is leading you down a certain path—toward love or jealousy, success or failure, contentment or frustration. Start seeing the path you want, the path God says you can have, and you’ll be amazed at how your life begins to change.
