Embrace the power of salvation’s full deliverance, like a helmet to protect your thoughts from lies. And take the mighty razor-sharp Spirit-sword of the spoken word of God. Ephesians 6:17 (TPT)
Have you ever had a bad idea pop into your head?
Wrong thoughts, ideas and suggestions never come to us from God—but they can come from the enemy. Now, I’m not saying every negative thought in your mind is from the devil, but if any thought comes against what God says is truth, don’t give it an inch.
God directs us to take any rogue thoughts prisoner. By doing so, we remove their ability to continue harassing or tormenting us with worry or fear.
How do we take evil thoughts captive, crush wrong attitudes and destroy deceptive imaginings that try to creep into our minds? Today’s verse says to speak the Word of God.
You see, spoken words are containers of His power. If Mark 11:23 says mountains have to obey when we speak God’s Word to them, then troublesome thoughts have to do the same. So I don’t mess around—I talk back to them by stating the Word.
For example, if I’ve made a financial decision and the enemy starts pounding me with thoughts like, “What a dumb move. That’s going to cost you!” I’ll handcuff them immediately, by declaring “God’s Word says the wealth of the wicked is stored up for the righteous, and that’s me. So I declare it’s flowing into my life in Jesus’ name!” (See Proverbs 13:22.)
If you’ve been struggling with fearful or troubling thoughts, maybe it’s time you started talking back. Boldly declare God’s promises over your life to shackle wrong thoughts and let His Word reign instead.
