But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8 (NLT)
Many people grow up in families, cultures or traditions that teach them God is a mean guy who’s out to get them.
Fortunately, my parents always taught me that God loves me like crazy. And I saw my dad model that same godly love for people everywhere, whether at home or out on the mission fields.
I remember a great man of God preaching with my father on crusades in India. This man’s team members just shook their heads when they met my dad because they had never seen someone with such an anointing or enthusiasm. The truth is, my dad could not contain his passion for Jesus. He had an incredible desire to let people know how much God loved them.
But although he lived with this revelation that God loved him, he wouldn’t brag about it. He just walked around with a natural confidence, knowing exactly who he was to God. And he enjoyed nothing more than talking to other people about God’s love for them too.
He would say, “It doesn’t matter who you are. God gave His only Son for you. When I was younger and going through struggles and trials, God showed me that if I were the only person alive, Jesus would have gone to the cross just for me.”
There is something life-changing about knowing God loves you tremendously—regardless of your age, culture or history. If you’re struggling to accept this truth or have a poor self-image, take time to meditate on what God showed my dad.
If you were the only person on Earth, Jesus would have gone to the cross just for you because He loves you.
