Least are the Greatest

July 23, 2021

“Whoever is the least among you is the greatest.” Luke 9:48 (NLT)

Jesus said that those in this lifetime who are considered the least are actually the greatest.

That’s the direct opposite of what many think. They think that the most important people in church are the ones on stage because they get the most attention. But that’s not true.

Those who work in the nursery looking after little kids may never get the praise they deserve. They’re giving up the opportunity to sit in the service for something they value more. They’re sacrificing for a cause, and because of that sacrifice, kids are learning about Jesus and their parents have the opportunity to grow and learn by hearing God’s Word.

There are people at our church who volunteer to guide cars through our parking lot in the middle of icy winters. It doesn’t matter to them if they’re recognized for it because that’s not why they do it. They do it to be a blessing to others. It’s a sacrifice, but they feel great about it. At the end of their shift they go home satisfied because they’ve been part of something bigger than themselves.

No one may realize the effort it took for them to be there at 7:30 am, but they do it because it’s their way of showing how much they love God, love people and love their church. It’s this kind of sacrifice that makes life amazing!

Our volunteers are my heroes. They give so much of themselves to make the world a better place for others, but I know from experience that they also get a lot in return. Even though they’re not giving to get, it’s amazing how good this kind of sacrifice makes you feel.

Who can you be a blessing to this week?
