Like Jesus

November 4, 2021

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1 (NKJV)

It is incredibly sad how many Christians believe that God is out to get them—the same God who created them and sacrificed His only Son so He could have a relationship with them.

I struggled with this misbelief as a teenager and went through a period when I thought that I needed to focus on getting rid of all the sin in my life. Tears would stream down my cheeks as I pleaded with God to search my heart and cleanse me from all of my wicked ways.

It all seemed very spiritual, and I mistook my sad feelings for Holy Spirit at work within me. I was convinced that He was continually showing me all my sin. This caused a feeling of impending doom to hang over me. Later I correctly identified this as condemnation… I learned that it is not from God.

This idea that I had to somehow earn my way into God’s good books also caused me to have judgmental thoughts about others. Without realizing it, I was actually becoming more like a legalistic Pharisee and less like Jesus.

Do you keep thinking God is out to get you? You need to know who you are in Christ! God has only blessings and favour for you. You don’t have to earn them. Jesus qualified you through His death, burial, and resurrection and now you can have every promise in the Bible because you follow Him.

Stay focused on who you are in Christ!
