Fight the good fight of the faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:12 (NLT)
Eternal life isn’t just about living forever.
First Timothy 6:12 talks about taking hold of the eternal life God has called us to experience. However, the word “life” in this verse comes from the word zoë in the Greek language, which refers to absolute fullness of life—a blessed life both physically and spiritually.
This verse makes it clear that you have this zoë life; it’s been given to you and it’s your right and privilege. But it also says you need to take hold of this God kind of life. You need to walk it out first in your mind and heart before you can experience it in your family, business, friendships and every other area.
How do you take hold of absolute fullness of life? By growing in your realization of who you are in Christ! As a child of God, this zoë life is yours. You can live it every day, but you also have to fight every day to avoid slipping back into the way you used to view yourself. This is your fight. The fight is not with the devil or with other people. It’s the fight to stay in faith—to continually focus on who God says you are.
As you grow in your experience of this zoë life, make sure you keep reaching out to others. You’re a child of God who is blessed in every way… and you can lead others to live this same kind of blessed life. There’s no greater joy!
