Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places

May 26, 2021

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Ephesians 3:19 (NLT)

The highest pleasure in the world is knowing that you're loved unconditionally. Every one of us is designed by God to give and receive this kind of love. Sadly, many of us give up on ever finding it, or we look for it in all the wrong places.

The thing is, no one can love us as perfectly as Jesus can. Only He can heal your broken heart and flood your mind with the peace that comes from knowing that you're special and significant, just as you are.

We need to understand and accept Jesus' love for us. If you don't believe He loves you, you'll hold every other person in your world responsible for filling your “love tank.” You become harsh and judgmental. You may even manipulate your spouse, kids or friends into loving you, but it’ll never satisfy you. Because deep down you know you had to guilt them into treating you a certain way.

Not believing Jesus loves you can also cause you to push others away. Guilt and condemnation constantly remind you of your flaws, so you reject any offer of genuine love because you feel you don't deserve it.

You need to know deep inside that you're fully loved by God—no strings attached. As you get into God's Word and establish your heart in His perfect, unconditional love, it brings healing and restoration. It frees you to give and receive love from others. As it says in Ephesians 3:19 (NLT), “Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”
