Made Right Through Grace, Not Works

March 21, 2022

And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is—free and undeserved. Romans 11:6 (NLT)

Do you ever wonder why you haven’t received an answer to prayer?

Let me tell you a story. I was praying for people in a church one day when two women with health issues stood side-by-side. The first woman was brand new to Christianity and it was clear that she hadn’t been living a “Christian lifestyle.” When I prayed for her, she was instantly healed. You could see the shock on her face as she began to cry.

The woman beside her had been going to church for years. When I prayed for her, nothing immediate happened. After the service, she came to talk to me, confused over why God would heal the other woman and not her. After all, she had tithed and served in the church for years.

There are two problems with this line of thinking. 1) God wasn’t holding back her healing. He didn’t choose to heal one woman and not the other. He purchased healing for both of them more than 2,000 years ago. 2) You can’t earn a miracle by tithing, volunteering or any amount of good works. It’s great to do these things, but they won’t help you earn good things from God.

Part of the reason why the woman received her healing may have been because she knew she could never qualify for this miracle. She just had to believe and accept the gift.

Are you trying to qualify yourself for a miracle? Let go of the desire to earn it and just accept the gift you’ve been given!
