For a child is born to us, a son is given to us... And he will be called…Mighty God, Everlasting Father… Isaiah 9:6 (NLT)
Yesterday, we began studying an incredible description of Jesus found in Isaiah 9:6-7 and discovered that He’s our Wonderful Counselor. Today, let's look at two more names for Jesus: “Mighty God” and “Everlasting Father.”
When you think of Jesus as a baby in a manger, you may not picture Him as mighty. But He said in John 14:9 (NLT), “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father!” All throughout the Gospels, we see examples of God's power flowing through Jesus in mighty ways to heal the sick and raise the dead to life.
What kind of need do you have in your life right now? Maybe a storm has done damage to you financially, emotionally, physically or relationally. But Proverbs 12:6 (NKJV) says, “The mouth of the upright will deliver them.” This Christmas season, start declaring Jesus' power. Because of Him, you have authority to claim God's promises—and these words spoken in faith will deliver you.
Not only is Jesus your mighty God, He's also your everlasting Father. We don't call Him our CEO or war general, we call Him Father. The very reason He sent Jesus to this Earth is because He wanted you as His child. “And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, 'Abba, Father'” (Galatians 4:6, NLT).
As you celebrate Christmas this year, focus on the gift of Jesus. Because of Him, you not only have access to God's mighty power, but you're also counted as a beloved son or daughter of God!
