More Like God Every Day

July 18, 2021

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17 (KJV)

Have you ever described yourself as pessimistic, cynical, angry, easily annoyed, unhappy, unsatisfied or apprehensive? I want you to know that the way you are right now is just a collection of learned habits and beliefs. These habits and beliefs don’t define you. They aren’t the real you.

The truth is that you can’t be defined by any of the attributes listed above. If you’ve given your life to Christ, you’re a child of God. You may have a few habits and beliefs to change, but with the help of Holy Spirit you can develop new belief systems that serve you better. You can be free.

You can have the freedom to enjoy your relationships. You can be free to be excited about the world you live in. You can have the freedom to enjoy what you do and who you are.

Our verse today says that freedom lies where the Spirit of the Lord is. I love how the Message Bible puts it: “God is a living, personal presence, not a piece of chiseled stone. And when God is personally present, a living Spirit, that old, constricting legislation is recognized as obsolete. We’re free of it! All of us! Nothing between us and God, our faces shining with the brightness of his face. And so we are transfigured much like the Messiah, our lives gradually becoming brighter and more beautiful as God enters our lives and we become like him” (2 Corinthians 3:16–18).

It’s time to realize who you truly are—a treasured child of God—so you can begin to know God as He truly is. He’s your awesome, loving, caring, Father God. He’s personally present in your life, and you can become more like Him every day.
