Just as it is written…”FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE ARE REGARDED AS SHEEP FOR THE SLAUGHTER.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through Him who loves us [so much that He died for us]. Romans 8:36–37 (AMP)
Whether it’s in a fight, in business or in finances, believers are often looked upon as sheep to the slaughter.
Notice that today’s verse doesn’t say we are, but that we’re regarded. See, the world looks at believers and thinks, “You can’t do business with all those Christian morals! You’ll get eaten up! You can’t be this loving and generous! You’ll be slaughtered!”
Yet, if we function as Christ calls us to in our businesses, relationships and families, Romans 8:37 goes on to say that we’re more than conquerors. For example, doing business with a believer should be win-win, with people thinking, “Wow! This guy doesn’t grind me down for every buck he can make!” And the truth is, there’s no need because as believers, we already live in victory.
What does being more than a conqueror mean for believers, though?
When someone pays off their debt, rebuilds a struggling relationship or climbs the corporate ladder, some might call them a conqueror. But to be more than a conqueror might mean being able to donate to every good cause you can think of, raising a close-knit family or finding fulfillment in your work beyond a big income or high position. When you’re more than a conqueror, you get to enjoy your victory.
We can experience joy and peace in our lives knowing the blessing of God is upon us in everything we do. Jesus conquered what we couldn’t—and we are more than victors through Him!
