The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you—and more [besides] will be given to you who hear. Mark 4:24 (AMPC)
If you struggled with a debilitating condition with your health and had the chance to hear a lecture from an expert who just discovered the cure, how motivated would you be to listen? I’m sure you would be on the edge of your seat. Another person who just happened to attend but had no real connection to the condition might be bored, but not you. What’s the difference? Motivation.
When you listen to God’s Word being taught, do you listen with a motivated expectancy? The more you expect to get out of it, the more you will. This is what Jesus is talking about in today’s verse.
Holy Spirit wants to reveal things to you from God’s Word, but He can’t do it if you’re unmotivated to listen. If you listen without emotion or passion and you don’t believe that His Word is the answer, it’s just information to you. New information won’t change your life. You have to be motivated. You need to know that God’s Word can change your life.
The same is true as you’re reading this devotional. Do you read each Bible verse knowing that it can set you free?
When you listen or read God’s Word intently, Holy Spirit reveals things to your heart. The more you listen, the more revelation you get—it only multiplies. Whenever you spend time learning God’s Word, make sure you’re motivated to really hear.
