When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. John 16:13 (NLT)
Being Spirit Contemporary requires us to be ever-changing. God is leading you on a journey of getting to know Him better, and will always cause you to grow and become more effective. Change is crucial on that journey. Churches need to change. People need to change. Families need to change to keep up with their changing and growing kids. Change may be uncomfortable at times, but if we don’t change, we risk losing it all.
This is an area of real struggle for the church because we tend to find something that works and want to camp out there. Unfortunately, this never works long term, because even if we’re relevant to a group of people today, we may not be in the near future. The world will never stop changing.
You can overcome your resistance to change by exposing yourself to the truth. As you continue to study God’s Word, ask Holy Spirit to show you areas you’ve misunderstood over the years, especially when it comes to church and how you share your faith. When you challenge your misbeliefs and realize the truth, the reality of that truth confronts everything you do. It causes you to have the right perspective and empowers you to change what is necessary.
Truth is confrontational and it doesn’t always feel good. But be willing to take an accurate look at your thoughts, beliefs and actions and go after change. Envision a new future and follow through with the change that’s necessary and you’ll move forward.
