No more Spiritual Birth Control

October 31, 2021

For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV)

We all carry beliefs that limit us—beliefs that don’t line up with what God says. These misbeliefs act like birth control pills, preventing the birth of all the wonderful new things God wants us to have in our lives. However, we can deal with these misbeliefs and begin to beautifully and naturally produce the awesome, exciting kind of life that God has for us.

On this journey toward lining our beliefs up with God’s Word, we have to learn to think differently. If we want to go places we’ve never gone, we need to do things we’ve never done. And to do things we’ve never done, we have to think things we’ve never thought.

Thinking differently involves change, and change can make you feel uneasy at first. I felt this way the first time I wore jeans on stage to preach. I had been raised to wear my best to church, but people were dressing much more casually both at work and at church. I knew it was fine with God because God is more concerned with the heart (1 Samuel 16:7), but it still made me feel uncomfortable at first. It was such a small thing, but I had to deal with my thinking as I changed my behaviour.

Over the next few days we’re going to cover a few common misbeliefs Christians have. As we challenge these misbeliefs by meditating on God’s Word, I want you to remember something important—just because something feels uncomfortable, it doesn’t mean it’s not from God. Open your heart and begin to claim the promises in God’s Word as your own!
