Peace from the Inside Out

October 10, 2021

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7 (NKJV)

In our ever-busy world, we need to learn how to walk in peace.

Paul spoke of this peace that surpasses all understanding, which is much more than a fleeting feeling of calm or tranquility. This peace runs much deeper, and as a follower of Christ, you can experience it. But how?

The way most of us look for peace is by trying to control our external world. When we’re stressed out, we try to get rid of what’s stressing causing stress or we look for ways to unwind. While problem solving is key and it’s important to recharge our batteries, we need to realize that peace isn’t something we achieve only externally. It’s something we also can experience within us.

This internal peace involves a daily choice. It’s choosing to stay peaceful instead of getting offended in traffic. It’s choosing to focus on what you’re grateful for instead of what you lack. Instead of worrying about the future, it’s deciding to pray and trust that God has great plans for you as you seek out solutions.

Because accessing God’s peace depends more on your focus than your circumstances. His peace has staying power. It’s also very attractive. Others will look at you and will wonder how you can have such an unshakeable peace in stressful situations.

Rather than thinking of peace as just an external goal you need to achieve, decide to receive God’s peace inside you. Grab hold of His promises and speak them over your life. Allow His peace to rule in you. Remember, Holy Spirit is within you and He is empowering you to live in peace every day.
