"Peace I leave with you, My peace I giveto you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart betroubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27 (NKJV)
As a believer, the wisdom, love and joy of Jesus are your inheritance. Today, there's one more ability I want study with you: His peace.
Jesus teaches us that we can decide not to let our hearts be troubled. You see, you can be aware of problems and still be at peace. He said in John 16:33 (AMPC), "I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]"
He didn't say you would only have peace when the storm is over. No, you can walk in peace today and every day, period. And where do get it? From His Spirit living within you.
Now, if you're praying for peace, what you're really saying is that you don't have it. When Jesus declared, "I am the way, the truth and the life" (John 14:6), the word truth means, "I am the reality." A doctor's diagnosis may be true, for instance, but Jesus is the deeper reality. The same goes for peace. It's more than a nice word; it's reality.
When you look at God's promises, they don't say to pray hard and hope God snaps His fingers and sends you some peace. If you're a born again believer, then the peace of God resides in your spirit. It's yours for the taking!
