Plant Yourself in God’s House

December 24, 2021

You are members of God's family. Together, we are his house... We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. Ephesians 2:19-21 (NLT)

Everybody is looking for a place to belong. They may have a physical family—a spouse, kids, and grandparents—but they still have a strong sense that they're missing something. They'll never know what it is until they come into God's family through Jesus.

Whenever I preach in different churches in different countries, I've noticed that it doesn't matter where I am—the sense of family among believers is the same. And the thing about families is that when you're a part of one, you naturally want to get involved.

I think of the fun pandemonium that happens when my family gets together for Christmas. Some of us work in the kitchen, bumping into each other as we peel potatoes or prepare the turkey. Others play with the little ones and keep them entertained. And others get everything prepared for singing carols or exchanging gifts. There's a sense of togetherness as everyone pitches in.

It's the same way in God's family. Psalm 92:13-14 (NKJV) says, “Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age.” I encourage you to plug into a local, life-giving church and get involved in any way you can. Plant yourself in God's family. As you do, your own life and home will flourish and bear fruit.

It starts with building God's family, the church. Let's rise up, get involved and help Him reach out to His children who haven't come home yet!
