Praise Causes Change

January 5, 2022

I will blessthe Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soulshall make its boast in the Lord; the humble shall hear of it and be glad.Psalm 34:1 (NKJV)

David made a point of praising God—not just occasionally, but all the time.

You might think, "That's easy for him. He was one of the greatest kings who ever lived." But if you follow his story, you'll find that David experienced a lot of problems. He went from facing a giant to hiding from a murderous king in the wilderness. He dealt with rejection, betrayal and loss. He even went so far as to say, "Those who hate me without cause outnumber the hairs on my head" (Psalm 69:4, NLT).

But David made the decision to change his focus. He chose to praise God and boast in His power, knowing that his enemies would not be allowed to triumph over him.

What enemy is in your face? What giant is screaming at you? As you enter a new year, you might be discouraged, thinking this year will be no different than the last. Or you may be in one of the most difficult seasons of your life. But when we choose to magnifyGod and declare His power, things begin to change.

Some people try to justify a pessimistic outlook by saying, "I'm just being real." But I say,"You go ahead and be real without God. I'll be real with God—because my God really works. My God is really there. He intervenes, turns situations around, makes me strong and fills me with joy and peace."

Decide to praise Him even when it doesn’t make sense. Boast in His power—and watch as situations turn around and enemies stop in their tracks!
