Prayer That Works!

March 12, 2022

But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” Acts 3:6 (NLT)

We can pray in a way that gets results.

Unfortunately, many people mistakenly think prayer is just some poetic way of expressing their hardships and troubles. They believe because David cried out about his needs and brokenness in the Psalms, that that’s how they should pray before God, too.

But we often forget that we do not live under the Old Covenant as David did. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we now live under the New Covenant.

Studying the New Covenant from the book of Acts and onward, we find the disciples praying in a completely different way. For example, Peter and John didn’t beg or plead God to heal the lame beggar beside the Temple gate. Peter commanded the lameness to be gone in Jesus’ name, and the man jumped to his feet, completely healed.

In a similar instance, Acts 9:32-34 (NLT) records the experience of Aeneas, a bedridden paralytic who received instant healing when Peter declared, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you! Get up, and roll up your sleeping mat!” And Acts 9:36-40 tells the amazing story of Tabitha coming back to life after Peter knelt beside her dead body and prayed. Then he simply told her to get up—and she opened her eyes and sat up.

After the cross, the disciples recognized the power of the Holy Spirit within them. They knew Jesus and who they were in Him, and it completely revolutionized how they prayed.

We must take what Jesus won for us and believe it belongs to us. The more we do, the more we’ll experience prayers that see results!
